Feast of Santa Fermina – Patron Saint of Sailors

The most important and beloved celebration in Civitavecchia is undoubtedly the Feast of Santa Fermina, held every year around April 28th.

  • Historic procession with the statue of the Saint carried on the shoulders of the confraternity members

  • Emotional sea procession: the statue is taken aboard a tugboat for the blessing of the sea and tribute to those lost at sea

  • Solemn Mass at the Cathedral of San Francesco

Other Popular Festivals and Sagre

Feast of San Giovanni Battista (June 23–24) One of the oldest festivals. Celebrated with the traditional “lumachella” (Civitavecchia-style snails), street food stalls, folk music, and dancing in the squares. Very popular with locals and cruisers arriving in summer.

Sagra del Pesce (various dates between June and September) Events dedicated to the fresh catch from the harbor: mixed fried fish, fish soups, spaghetti with octopus and pecorino, and plenty of grilled fish. Often held along the seafront or in the marina area.

Civitavecchia Carnival (February) One of the liveliest carnivals in central Lazio, with allegorical floats, masks, music, and plenty of fun. Perfect for those arriving during Carnival season.

Chestnut Festival and Autumn Products (October–November) In the countryside around Civitavecchia and nearby villages, chestnuts, new wine, and autumn produce are celebrated with markets and food stalls.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8) An important religious celebration with lights, Christmas market, and the first holiday events.
